Excellent turnout for the work party.

Today’s work party was a complete success!  We had 15 members and 14 machines turn out for work.  We managed to clear out all of the water bars on trail #3 and cleared brush on trails #7 and 12.  The work didn’t take very long since we had so much help. The frost was only down 2 to 3 inches so we didn’t have too much trouble digging and trenching around the wet spots and water bars.  We worked from 10:15 till about 12:30 then rode up to the picnic area on Ober hill for lunch.  After lunch, some stayed to ride for a bit longer while others headed for warmer places. Here are a few pictures from the cookout:

There should be some more pictures of the members at work coming soon.

Thanks to everyone that turned out to help.

This Weekends Work Party !!

Hey SVTR members.

I hope everyone had a Safe and great Thanksgiving weekend… Now that the rifle hunting season is over our trails will be reopening this weekend… ( Until we have a measurable snow )…

I ask you all to please remember that we are working on trail #3 this weekend… The work that needs to be done should only take a few hours… However it is very important to this club, to show our thanks to our landowner by seeing to it that trail # 3 is put into shape …

Unfortunately I do understand that the Christmas Holiday season is just around the corner and we all have our holiday shopping to do… However this work can not wait until spring…

So again I’m asking any and all of you to give a few hours of your time this Saturday 10 am to help me update the maintenance on this trail…

Again I will be bringing a 5lb pak of hot dogs and a loaf of bread to go towards lunch…

I look forward to seeing many of you there…

Yes your time given will count towards your next years VASA  membership registration fee.

I Thank You All For Your Support !!!

Happy Thanksgiving

SVTR Members

I would like to take a moment to wish you all a Safe Thanksgiving Weekend…

Deb wants the kitchen which means I need to get out of her way.. Outside work to be done anyways so I’ll keep this short.

Our next club meeting is Dec 18th. Thursday night at 7:00 pm Newbrook fire station in Newfane Vt. We are having a members appreciation meeting… I ask all members to bring a small dish such as snacks like crackers & cheese, cookies, brownies, etc… We will have paper plates and plastic forks and spoons should anyone bring a warm dish… Bring your own drink. There is a soda machine there…

After the meeting we will have a 50/50 raffle with hopefully a good size pot for one lucky winner…

Please take a few minutes to check out our new web-site Bill has it all set up and it looks very good. I will be getting more info to Bill this week to be added. The web address is still the same…

I Thank Sue Barnett very much for the awesome job she did with our web-site over the past 2 years…

Also Eric has informed me that the new trail arrows signs are coming soon… Like many of us he is having a very busy year.

I will be watching the weather closely over the next weekend or so… We have some very important trail work that needs to be done as soon as possible… Picks, shovels, bars, bow saws, and brush cutters will be the tools for the day… Some water bars need our attention  on trail # 3.

As of right now I plan to be at the Joy Brook trail head at 10 am Saturday the 6th of December.. If any body would like to join me that would be great. I will have a bag of hot dogs and a loaf of bread towards lunch.

Again enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend and please keep it a safe one.

I thank you all for your support!!!

November 20, 2008 Meeting Report.

Topics discussed at our November meeting included:

  • SVTR currently has 113 members with 112 VASA registered machines.
  • Checking vs. Savings
The question of how to use the clubs checking and savings accounts was raised for discussion.  Everyone should think about this and bring their ideas or suggestions to the next meeting.
  • VASA Annual meeting
VASA will hold it’s annual meeting on January 10th in Barre.  All members are welcome to attend.  If your interested, contact Lloyd for further details.

VASA shirt/sweatshirt orders are being taken.  If you are interested, contact Lloyd.

VASA has approximately 2500 members this year up from approximately 1700 last year.

  • Website Update
New website hosting and design are complete.  Site is up but we are waiting for DNS changes for it to be live.  New site also includes a members forums area.
  • Donation to BEEC/Habitat for Humanity.
A donation of $100 to BEEC and or Habitat for Humanity was voted and passed. $50 will go to each organization.
  • Trails
Trail maintenance was lacking this year.  Many of us did not get out to ride as regularly as we have in the past.  The land owner has noticed the lack of maintenance and we have promised to pick it up again next year.  We will be planning a number of work parties starting in spring.  The joy brook bridge will be among the first of these work parties.
  • Joy Brook Bridge
Land owner has approved the use of culverts to replace this bridge.  We are researching material costs to go this route.
  • Dec 18 Meeting – “Member Appreciation Day”
Our next meeting will be on December 18 at the Newbrook Fire Station at 7Pm.  This is “Member appreciation Day”. Please bring a snack or dish to share with everyone.  We will hold a 50/50 at this meeting.  Bring your own drinks.
  • T-Shirts
We are still in the process of researching a different printing method and sources.  The question of a new logo design was raised.  If anyone has ideas for a new logo, bring those ideas to the December meeting.

Turnout was 12 members for this meeting. Meeting started at 7:01 and ended at 7:50.  There was no 50/50 this month.

Trails Closed

Good Morning SVTR Members

As most of you know, we share our trails with a hunting club who has been enjoying the hunting camps for many years.

So tomorrow I will be posting ” TRAIL CLOSED ”  signs at our trail head and at several different locations on our trails.

Sunday November 9th the SVTR trails will be closed until Monday December 1st. Our trails will remain open after Dec.1st until we get measureable snow. That is when we close our trails for the snowmobile season.

I ask you all to “please remember there is No Hunting without permission” on all of our trails.

I thank you all for your support !!!

The passing of a fellow member

Hello members,

It is with a heavy heart that I feel I must pass on this information.

We have lost a very valuable and much respected member of the Southern Vermont Trail Riders.

Clarence “Bunny” Aldrich passed away last Tuesday the 28th of October.

He was a hard worker, attending every trail-work party that he could and seldom missed a meeting.  He had a great sense of humor and everyone who met him, instantly liked him.

I have attached a few pictures and a copy of the obituary in the Rutland Herald for anyone who would like to view and/or sign the guest book.

He was an awesome man and will be missed very much.
