Novermber 2010 Newsletter

Here is the SVTR club news for November 2010:

1) VASA is still taking orders for apparel. There is a complete line of shirts, sweatshirts and a ball cap as well as a new line of VASA “Girls Only” apparel. Orders are due in by November 30th at the latest. If you are interested, you can download the flyer and order form from here.

2) We voted to hold the SVTR annual meeting (This year only) at our December,16 meeting/Christmas party. We figured this made sense as this is usually one of the best attended meetings.  We will hold elections for the offices of Treasurer and President at this meeting with those positions taking office in January 2011.  Please joins us and bring a dish to share and an item to donate to the Christmas raffle.

3) We voted to once again make donations to the Brattleboro Reformer Christmas Stocking, The Townshend Food Shelf and SEVCA in the amount of $300 each.

4) We voted to not hold a meeting in January or February 2011 as there is usually very little to discuss at these meetings. Instead, we ask that as many members as possible attend the VASA annual meeting on Jan 8, 2011 at the Canadian Club in Barre VT. We will try to car pool as much as possible. Contact Lloyd to let him know if you can attend and if you would like to ride or if you can drive. Regular SVTR club meetings will resume in March 2011.

5) SVTR is once again holding a raffle for a full SVTR+VASA membership for 2011. Tickets are $5 each. Drawing will be at our first 2011 work party (April 2011). If the winner has already purchased their memberships, the club will reimburse the cost. Contact Lloyd or Deb Church to purchase your ticket(s).

6) There are some new photos and a couple new videos up on the SVTR Website. Check em out at: http://svtr.net/?page_id=136 for the photos and http://svtr.net/?page_id=493 for the videos.

7) Now that we are coming into the off season, it’s once again time for me to plug the SVTR Forums. So far we have 20 or so members that have signed up to use the forums tho not very many have actually posted anything yet. The forums are a great place to keep in touch with the rest of the club during the winter months. The forums are free to join and easy to use. Check out the forums at: http://svtr.net/fourm

December 4, 2010 Work Party

svtr_work_partyWe will be having our final work party for the year on December 4th.  The plan is to divide into several groups.  One group will head off to the new landing where we will drop a few trees that we will cut up for firewood next year.  Another group will do some tree work around the Joy Brook entrance and landing while another team works on moving gravel from a pile along the entrance driveway up to the sink hole at the Joy Brook landing. We may also have a few new picnic tables to assemble if we can get the kits in time.

Bring your own drinks and some chips to share.  The club will provide hot dogs and buns for lunch.  This may be our last chance to get out on the trails before winter weather closes the trails for the season.

We will meet at the Joy Brook landing at 9am on Saturday December 4.  Contact Ray Leeman or Lloyd Church if you have any questions or just to let us know if you can attend.  We look forward to seeing you.

October Trails Update

Hello SVTR Members and friends.

Here is the October trails update.

We had another successful work party this last weekend.  We got all of trail 6 cut back and cleaned up.  There were also a few large trees that came down across a couple of trails during the last storm that we cleared.  Ray Leeman asked me to pass on a special “Thank You!” to all that turned out to help.

There is still a little bit of work to be done before the season officially closes on October 31st.  We need to clear a little on trail #1 and just a little at the bottom of trail #11.  We are planning to get this done at our next work party on Saturday October 16th.

On October 30th we are having our end of season work party and cookout at the Joy Brook landing.  We are going to do a little work on the access road to the landing and clean up around the landing.  Some of the roadway washed out earlier this year and we need to fill in the washed areas and smooth it out a bit.  We are also planning a cookout and ride that day.  Please bring a dish to share and join us for a nice late October ride before the trails close.

Trail Boss Ray Leeman has asked that anyone that does any work on the trails, please report that work to Ray so that he can keep track of what is done and what still needs to be done.  Also, if you come across anything in the trail that you cant take care of, let Ray know so that we can get it on the schedule for a work party.
