Joy Brook Bridge work party weekend.

This weekend’s work party was a great success.  Between our crew and the crew from the hunting club we managed to remove the old bridge, place the new culverts, build the head walls and clean up the mess left from the old bridge.  It rained steadily for most of the day on Saturday be we kept on working and got most of the stone work and back fill completed.  Sunday was a much dryer and nicer day.  We had a slightly larger turnout and split into several crews.  Some spent the day on clean up at the bridge site and a few smaller crews headed out onto the trails to fix water bars and trim back brush.  The hunting club provided food, drinks and an amazing amount of manual labor on both days helping the project come to completion.

A big THANK YOU! to everyone who turned out to help this weekend.  We couldn’t have done it without you. (Well, we probably could have but it wouldn’t have gone as quickly or been as much fun.)

Thank you to the volunteers from the hunting club: Leigh, Arthur, Tom, Seth, Bob M., Bob C., Kirk and Brian.  You were all a great help.  The food was excellent!

Thanks to the SVTR members who helped on the project: Ray & Ray, Shawn, Craig, Ron, Bill, Jessica, Ken and Kent.

Thank you to Mike C. who loaned us his equipment to do the work and for his continued support of our club(s).

Thank you the the few whose names didn’t make it onto the list.

Pictures from the weekend can be found here.

This project that has haunted us for the last year and a half is for the most part DONE! We will be back next weekend after the ground dries out a bit to grade and rake the trail and do a little more clean up.
