Southern Vermont Trail Riders members and friends.
I have a lot of good news that we the leaders of the SVTR have been working on these last few months and so I wanted to take some time here to fill you in.
But, first I must update you on some sad news that has taken place in VASA. At the VASA annual meeting we voted to keep Bruce Durkee as our organization’s President. We also Voted to keep John Lavanway as our Treasurer. Well, about 5 weeks ago John had a major brain aneurysm and was placed in ICU. Last week we were notified that John had passed away. We the members of VASA will miss John greatly.
Over the past few months we have purchased 5 used 30ft I-beams to replace the bridge at the Joybrook landing that takes us to the Stuffed Bun Snack Bar.
I am very pleased to add that the West River Sno Goers Snowmobile Club has shared the cost of the beams with us. Now all we need to do is get them moved from Brookline Vt. To our landing. Plans for that are already in the making and we hope to get them moved in March.
In March we have another event happening at the Newbrook Fire station on Rte 30 in Newfane Vt. VASA is having a VEST safety class. Vermont law requires all ATV riders under age 16 to take a Safety class. So, VASA instructors will be here on March 21st at 6pm for sign ups and the class itself will take place on March 31st at 8:30am and will last until 3pm. Please feel free to call the VASA office with any Questions you may have.

Plans for April are also happening. Our first Spring work party is in the schedule for Saturday April 21st and a 2nd is planned for April 29th . We will be working to clear the trails so that we may kick off our 2012 riding season.
This year we will be scheduling more work parties because of all the projects that we have. I do want to clear up something here. We in VASA or the SVTR have no rules whatsoever that says you have to work on trails. So just because you read we are having a work party during the season doesn’t mean you have to work. You can still ride the trails but please slow down when you ride by our workers. It’s safer for all of us. Also please don’t come on the 21st and the 29th 28th to just ride, because we are there to get all the winter knock down cleaned up. With that having been said you are welcome to come and help us get these trails opened for all. Lets all volunteer together.
As you know it takes money to operate a club. We have been quite lucky in having many members and friends make generous donations to the SVTR. So we the leaders of the SVTR have been trying to come up with different ways to make money, and what we have come up with is a raffle. We need a big item to raffle off so here’s what we’re working on. A new chain saw, 2 cycle oil, bar and chain oil, with a safety kit which is a pair of chaps, safety helmet, and safety glasses. We plan to add a couple more nice items for 2 runner ups. We plan to sell these tickets for $5 each.
Also keep in mind that we are currently offering a free membership for 1 which is 1 VASA membership including 1 free membership for the SVTR. These tickets also are $5 each. We will make the drawing for this raffle at our April 21st work party.
I do currently have the 2012 VASA TAD stickers and will be signing up members at our next club March 15th and April 19th meetings. We will also do sign up memberships at our April work parties. Ray Leeman and Kendall Cobb also have membership applications to make it easier for you and me. Please check our SVTR website for contact info. http//svtr.net
I would like to end by saying Thank You very much to all our landowners.
So lets all have a safe 2012 riding season.
Lloyd Church
President
